Meet your Therapist
Alliance Counselling & Therapy Services was created by Sarah Barnes, M.A., C.C.C.
Sarah is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with over 10 years by of experience providing therapy in several settings including shelters, community agencies, and online. Sarah's extensive therapeutic experience allows her to work successfully one on one, with couples, and with families. She also has extensive knowledge and experience with crisis intervention, and safety planning.
A note from Sarah:
"My experience as a counsellor has shown me that the therapeutic alliance is the most important thing for successful counselling. At the end of the day, you need to feel comfortable and connected to your counsellor in order to allow yourself to open up and share your vulnerabilities (which is not easy to do).
I do not take this responsibility lightly. I believe in empowering people to become the best versions of themselves by aiding them to build their awareness around whatever led them to seek counselling. Only in knowing, understanding, and processing what has brought you in can allow you to begin contemplating moving forward, or making changes. I strongly believe in meeting a client where they are at and doing my best to meet their needs at that time. Whether this is through supportive listening, advising, or offering new tips and strategies for managing their symptoms and stress.
So what happens when an approach doesn't work for a you? We scrap it and try something new. The most beautiful thing about counselling is that there's always something different we can try. If something isn't your 'cup of tea', that's ok. Every approach doesn't work for everyone. This merely provides us with an opportunity to get creative and find something new that is a better fit.
It would be my pleasure to be a part of your journey to health and happiness."
